By the numbers: Chicago mayoral race poll and governor's approval rating

The Chicago mayoral race might be over sooner than predicted, if poll numbers continue their current trend. A Chicago Tribune poll, conducted Feb. 11 through Feb. 15, found that 45 percent of polled Chicagoans would vote for Mayor Rahm Emanuel if the election were held now. That is three percentage points more than said would vote for Emanuel in January, and only about five percentage points away from the majority any candidate would need to win the election outright Feb. 24.

If Emanuel (or any other candidate) does not reach that 50-percent-plus-one threshold, a runoff election…
