Bill would make Obama’s birthday a state holiday

A bill introduced in the Illinois House would make Aug. 4, President Barack Obama’s birthday, a state holiday.

State Rep. André Thapedi, D-Chicago, and three other Chicago-area Democratic lawmakers are sponsoring House Bill 4654, which was filed on Feb. 2. The legislation would make Obama’s birthday a legal holiday, meaning state offices and schools would be closed.

From the bill:

“The fourth day of August of each year shall be a legal holiday to be known as Barack Obama’s Birthday to be observed as a day on which to hold appropriate exercises in commemoration of our illustrious President. When August fourth shall fall on a Sunday, the following Monday…
