Illinois workers' compensation system could be starting point to breaking budget deadlock, GOP leader says

SPRINGFIELD — House Minority Leader Jim Durkin on Monday suggested the Illinois workers’ compensation system might be the point where Republicans and Democrats get together and start breaking the 8-month-long impasse that has left the state without a budget.

“In my caucus, I believe that workers’ comp is extremely important, extremely important,” said Durkin, R-Western Springs.

“And I’m of the belief, after my discussions with the (House) speaker and the (Senate) president, over the months, that is an area where we can find some common ground.”
