We need redistricting, legislative districts that reflect our communities

Every 10 years in Illinois, the majority political party redraws legislative maps behind closed doors and quickly votes to approve their new maps before the public has time to examine them.

Communities of color are told that this system should remain in place,because the elected officials who draw these maps in back rooms are working to protect our interests and the maps they draw are the best we can expect.

We deserve better.  We need to change the mapmaking process and make all of the legislative districts — national, state,…
