BREAKING NEWS: Rauner signs stopgap budget that flies through Illinois House and Senate

In a matter of hours with a few starts and stops, the Illinois House and  Senate approved and Gov. Bruce Rauner signed into law a stopgap budget Thursday that funds K-12 and public colleges for a full year while financing prisons and other agencies, gets funding to human services near collapse and allows road construction and other building projects to continue.

In a rare show of bipartisan compromise, the budget bill passed 105-4 out of the House, immediately was sent to the Illinois Senate where it was approved on a 54-0 vote before heading to Rauner who signed the legislation…
