One speech, two different interpretations from Illinois Democrats, Republicans

Gov. Bruce Rauner tried to maintain a positive and hopeful tone as he delivered his third State of the State address this week. But Illinois Democrats and Republicans seemed to hear two entirely different versions of the same speech.

“I think it was a great speech,” said state Sen. Jim Oberweis, R-Sugar Grove. “He was appealing to Republicans and Democrats alike to come together to solve this budget mess that we’ve been facing for a year and a half.”

On the other side of the aisle, the interpretation was different.
