Only in Illinois: Illinois’ credit rating takes another hit over budget crisis

Fitch Ratings this week issued another downgrade to Illinois’ credit rating, which has long been the worst in the nation, saying the 19-month-long budget crisis has “fundamentally weakened the state’s financial profile.”

This comes just after Attorney General Lisa Madigan filed a lawsuit that would halt state employee pay as of Feb. 28 if lawmakers don’t pass a budget. We’re talking budget pressure on this week’s “Only in Illinois.”

In issuing yet another downgrade to the state’s credit rating, FitchRatings also issued a warning that further demerits will be on the way if the state does…
