Only in Illinois: Illinois Senate budget deal has rough takeoff in Springfield

The Illinois Senate’s “grand bargain” got off to a difficult start this week at the Capitol as Republicans accused Democrats of bringing the bills up for votes before the entire package is ready.

While Democrats passed three uncontroversial bills on their own, a pension reform bill — one of the most significant of the 13 bills in the package — failed when Republicans refused to support it.
