Only in Illinois: Rauner shifts into action on Illinois budget “grand bargain”

Until this week, Gov. Bruce Rauner’s policy — at least publicly — on the Illinois budget framework under construction in the Senate had been one of non-involvement.

Repeatedly he had encouraged Senate President John Cullerton, D-Chicago, and Republican Leader Christine Radogno, R-Lemont, to continue working toward a budget deal that could pass with bipartisan support in their chamber. He said he didn’t think it was his role to interfere in their negotiations.
