Durbin: GOP Obamacare replacement bill to hit older Illinoisans the hardest

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., warned Friday that the congressional Republicans’ proposal to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act would leave tens of thousands of Illinois seniors and those nearing retirement age among the hardest hit by higher premiums.

In addition to the steep cuts to Medicaid that could result in 625,000 Illinoisans losing insurance, Durbin said one of biggest problems with the GOP bill is that it will allow insurers to increase premiums for those between the ages of 50 and 64 by up to five times more than under the ACA, or Obamacare, while also cutting tax credits…
