As population shrinks, employment in Illinois hits new peak

Given all the doom and gloom we hear about jobs in the Land of Lincoln, you probably will find it hard to believe that the level of employment has reached a new high, according to preliminary figures announced today by the Illinois Department of Employment Security.

With the addition of 25,600 nonfarm payroll positions in February and an upward revision to January’s jobs numbers from 1,700 to 8,100, Illinois — after nearly 17 years — finally has surpassed, by 100 jobs, its previous peak employment level set in September 2000.
